Our Mission

Performance-Focused Rehab for Lifelong Movement Health

We know that traditional, high-volume clinics often leave patients frustrated and rushed. That is why we built a practice offering 60-minute, one-on-one sessions with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, never an aide or technician. This approach ensures every patient gets the expert attention needed for true recovery and long-term movement health. Our focus is on orthopedic healthcare and sports injury services, with specialty programs for runners, athletes, and those seeking to prevent surgery or return to sport after injury. From ACL rehabilitation to chronic pain management, every treatment plan is designed to bridge the gap between being pain-free and being ready for peak performance. We are proud to serve Hillsboro, Cornelius, Forest Grove, North Plains, Aloha, Beaverton, and the wider Tualatin Valley.

Our Vision

To be the most trusted name in orthopedic physical therapy in Hillsboro and the Tualatin Valley — a clinic where patients feel genuinely seen, supported, and empowered to take ownership of their long-term health.

Our Approach: How We Treat

Our approach combines two core pillars to deliver results that last:

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy is a cornerstone of effective physical rehabilitation. This hands-on approach restores movement, reduces pain, and enhances the body's natural healing process. Techniques may include:

  • Soft tissue mobilization and massage to release muscle tension and improve circulation
  • Joint mobilization to improve joint alignment and range of motion
  • Myofascial release to reduce fascial restrictions and ease chronic pain
  • Neuromuscular re-education to retrain movement patterns and restore control

Whether you are recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, or working to move more freely, manual therapy delivers both immediate relief and long-term results.

Functional Exercise

Movement is medicine, and functional exercise is a core component of every treatment plan at TVPT. We design customized programs that restore strength, improve mobility, and support long-term function. Your exercise plan may include:

  • Strengthening exercises to rebuild muscle and joint support
  • Stretching to improve flexibility and reduce stiffness
  • Balance and coordination training to prevent falls and reinjury
  • Endurance activities to boost stamina and overall health
  • Functional movements that mirror real-life tasks and athletic demands

Every exercise is selected with clinical purpose and adjusted as you progress. By moving the right way at the right time, you heal faster, move better, and reduce the risk of reinjury.

Acute Injury Treatment

For recent sprains, strains, fractures, and other trauma, early intervention is key. We provide comprehensive evaluation, targeted pain and inflammation management, protective strategies to prevent reinjury, and guided early movement to promote healing and restore function quickly.

FAQS

Common Questions About Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy

  • What makes Tualatin Valley Physical Therapy different from other clinics?

Every session at TVPT is a full 60 minutes, one-on-one with Dr. Benjamin Stokes — a Doctor of Physical Therapy. There are no aides, no techs, and no handoffs. Our boutique, cash-based model means you get focused, expert care without insurance delays, surprise bills, or rushed appointments.

  • Do I need a referral to start physical therapy?

In most cases, no. Oregon is a direct access state, which means you can schedule an evaluation without a physician's referral. Some insurance plans — including Medicare and workers' compensation — do require a referral, so if you are using one of those, we will walk you through what is needed before your first visit.

  • What conditions do you treat?

We treat a wide range of orthopedic and sports-related conditions, including back and neck pain, shoulder and knee injuries, sciatica, tendon issues, post-surgical recovery, auto accident injuries, work-related injuries, chronic pain, and balance concerns. If you are unsure whether we treat your specific condition, give us a call and we will let you know.

  • Do you accept insurance?

We currently accept Medicare Part B, workers' compensation, and auto/PIP insurance. For all other plans, we are an out-of-network provider. Many PPO plans reimburse out-of-network physical therapy services, and we provide a Superbill to make that process straightforward. We also offer transparent self-pay rates, payment plans, and HSA/FSA payment options.

  • How long will my treatment take?

It depends on your condition, goals, and how your body responds. Most patients begin noticing meaningful improvement within a few weeks. Because every session is one-on-one with your doctor and treatment is adjusted in real time based on your progress, recovery at TVPT tends to move faster than at high-volume clinics. We will give you a realistic timeline at your first visit.

  • Where are you located and who do you serve?

We are located at 333 S 1st Ave. in Hillsboro, Oregon, just minutes from downtown and close to Shute Park. We serve patients throughout Washington County, including Hillsboro, Cornelius, Forest Grove, North Plains, Aloha, and Beaverton.
